How the transplant journey works
Liver transplantation is planned in stages, with a full multidisciplinary team involved from the first consultation to long-term follow-up.
Initial consultation
Review the diagnosis, previous treatment, medical history and current liver function.
Transplant evaluation
Assess overall health, liver disease severity, transplant indication and suitability.
Donor evaluation
For living donor transplantation, detailed medical, imaging and laboratory evaluation of the potential donor.
Multidisciplinary review
The transplant team evaluates the case and discusses the most appropriate treatment pathway.
Transplant planning
If transplantation is appropriate, the surgical and medical teams plan the procedure and peri-operative care.
Surgery & recovery
Coordinated surgical, intensive-care and post-operative support for the patient and family.
Long-term follow-up
Regular follow-up to monitor graft function, medicines, recovery and long-term health.
